The beautiful City of Salvador is the capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia. It has a rich colonial history as a busy port with much of the country's sugar and diamond trade passing through. This has in part left a legacy of baroque churches and ornate private homes and squares. Salvador has stronger African influences than other parts of Brazil due to the trade links, which is evident in the spicy local dishes, and ceremonies honouring African Gods. The City is situated between lush tropical hills, and the fantastic broad sandy beaches of the bay of Todos os Santos.
