Cagliari is the capital city of the Italian island of Sardinia and is the island's largest city. Situated along the south coast, Cagliari offers the perfect mix of recreation and sight-seeing. The bustling port offers a buzzing atmosphere, especially when the open-air Sunday market is taking place, as well as a number of water pursuits to indulge in around the marina.
Its five-mile long Poetto Beach is one of the best city beaches in the Mediterranean and there are many other wonderful beaches and lagoons to discover.
Cagliari is an ancient city with a long history, meaning there are a number of historical monuments to visit. One of the most popular sights is the ancient district of Castello, which sits on the hilltop overlooking the city with its 13th century towers guarding the medieval city walls. San Saturnino is home to Sardinia's oldest church, dating all the way back to the 5th century.
The restaurants in Cagliari are renowned for their fresh fish and famous Italian dishes and at night, the port becomes busy with visitors and locals enjoying the warm night air, bars and cafes.
