It has been asserted that Mexico will soon become a "major player" in worldwide tourism.

Website m-Travel.com reports that according to Sectur, its major strengths lie in "abundant" natural and cultural resources and a good location in relation to "major feeder markets".

Mexican tourism has also helped to make up the country's trade deficit for the past decade, m-Travel.com claims.

Meanwhile, tourism earnings in Mexico have reportedly increased two-fold since 1990.

It was recently reported by alpharooms.com that there has been a substantial increase in the number of flights to Mexico being booked at the beginning of January.

"January is traditionally a peak booking time for summer holidays, but Monday saw unprecedented levels of enquiries and bookings," observed Gareth Hockey, alpharooms.com's online marketing manager.
