Innsbruck

The capital of Tyrol, Innsbruck is one of Europe's most stunning cities. In the eastern Alps, Innsbruck is about 30 minutes from the Italian border and 45 minutes from the German border, making it easily accessible. It has always been a lively city and the inner city and the old town's hustle and bustle make it the perfect place to wander round one afternoon. This is the heart of historic Innsbruck and historical sights include the Hofburg and the Hofkirche, the Baroque church Domkirche St. Jakob and the Leopoldsbrunnen. The city is divided into districts and other districts provide lovely walks, zoos, gardens, shopping, art galleries and museums, and also worth visiting is the Olympic village.

Klagenfurt

Acoording to legend, this area was haunted by a type of dragon or 'lindwurm', a brave man killed the dragon and the town was founded. The main sights in the town are a huge statue of the 'Lindwurm' in the centre of the towns main square of Neuer Platz'. Klagenfurts cathedral is a spectacular building redecorated in Baroque style. The city also boasts 'Minimundus' a major attraction where a collection of famous buildings from around the world including the Eiffel tower have been built on a much smaller scale. Lake Worthersee and the town of Klagenfurt are interconnected by an artificial rivulet. Close by is the impressive Hochosterwitz Fortress and many other minor castles.

Salzburg

Salzburg, Austria's fourth largest city is surrounded by two hills: the Kapuzinerberg on the left bank and the Monchsberg on the right. Salzburg's old town, located on the south bank of the river is a Baroque masterpiece filled with churches, plazas, fountains, gardens and courtyards. Being the home of Mozart, music is a dominant pastime. There are numerous bars, restaurants, museums, chocolate shops and liqueur bars. The city has a very Italian feel as it was built by three bishop-princes in the late 16th and early 17th century. It is a spectacular city filled with medieval spires and domes, making it incredibly picturesque.

Vienna

Austria's capital, Vienna is a beautiful and lively city. Major sights include St. Stephen's Cathedral, the State Opera House, and the famous Vienna Boys' Choir. There are also many museums, parks, cultural highlights and events to make your visit even more interesting. There are numerous shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and night clubs as well as theatres to make Vienna the ideal place to go for a weekend away. It is worth trying some authentic Viennese cuisine and traditional dishes include Wiener schnitzel and Tafelspitz. Vienna not only boasts many historical and cultural sights but it is also a very modern city with much evening entertainment and a huge choice of things to do during the day.
