Resort Information for Fuerteventura, canaries

Holidays in Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura

-

If you look around Caleta de Fuste, you will notice that it does not have a significant old town. This is because it is a purpose built holiday resort. It has been created around the original cove, because this offered a safe, sheltered environment for beach activities. Caleta is Spanish for cove and the large beach at Caleta de Fuste has been created from pale golden sand, that was brought in especially for the purpose. Over time the sand has compacted, but unlike some other locations where the man made beach has been removed by nature, the beach at Caleta de Fuste remains relatively intact. A plan to improve the main beach has improved and over 4 million euros will be spent on the project during 2008 and 2009. Further beaches have been created parallel to the Sheraton and Elba Carlotta Hotels and the Atlantico commercial centre. They were made by creating lagoons where there was once solid rock, and then importing sand for the beach. These beaches have now settled in and the sea there is generally calm.

Holidays in Corralejo, Fuerteventura

-

The original part of the town is based around the old harbour, which was used by local fishermen. Here the small sheltered beach, Playa la Clavellina, provides safe bathing for locals and holidaymakers alike. The more modern facility of Corralejo Marino consists of a marina for pleasure craft and room for the ferry services to Lanzarote and Lobos, a small island that is a 15 minute ferry ride from Fuerteventura. A short distance south of the old port are a couple of more spacious sandy beaches that have fine views of the Island of Lobos. Whereas the small beach by the old harbour in Corralejo seems to making use of the space, these larger beaches are aimed at holidaymakers staying in the north of Fuerteventura, and have everything needed for a day at the beach on Fuerteventura.

Holidays in Costa Antigua, Fuerteventura

-

Costa Antigua is an emerging resort still in its infancy located 1Km away from Caleta de Fuste, and offers very easy access to all amenities. The international airport is less than ten minutes drive away and the island's two golf course a few minutes drive (with others planned in the area in the very near future). There is a beautiful cliff-top walk that links the resort to Caleta De Fuste, and with plans to develop the land between the resorts with a range of villas, the future of the area is becoming more and more desirable as time goes by Fuerteventura's capital town is Puerto del Rosario and once again is easily reached by car within 10-15 minutes here you will find a large range of shops and speciality outlets to cater for most.

Holidays in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura

-

Costa Calma was built around a small village called Caņada Del Rio, though it is now difficult to see how the original pueblo fitted into the landscape. The attraction for the tourism industry was the sandy beaches, but care was taken when the resort was being developed to make sure that countryside did not disappear under concrete. The built up areas of Costa Calma are separated from each other by a green zone that runs the length of the resort. This provides a haven for wildlife, and we spotted several European Hoopoes. This greenbelt provides a pleasant area to walk through during the day, it does not take too much imagination to feel that any second the trees are likely to talk to you.
